I'm Dave Quiles. Many people have a moment in his or her life in which purpose and inspiration seep into their essence within- a moment of life enlightenment. My moment occurred when I was a child visiting the Magic Kingdom of Walt Disney World. While my very first visit was an experience I will never forget, it was one years later that would command my love and set me on my desired career path. I walked down the rustic path in Frontierland with my parents when a large wall that certainly had not been there the last time we were in attendance halted our movement. The verbiage attached to its face announced that the area behind it was "being refurbished for our future enjoyment." While the wall had done its job in preventing us from entering the construction site without hard hats, the naked, steel skeleton of Splash Mountain gleaming in the Florida sun was clearly visible. And while it broke the rules of this fantasy world in my head, it was a beautiful jolt of reality in my young mind. These imaginative transportive places were made by people! They didn't merely exist and we happened upon as in other fanciful places like Yosemite National Park or the Grand Canyon-these were human-made landmarks...and I wanted to make them as well.
From that moment on, I was obsessed. Not only of the storytelling and ability to transport anyone to any place, but also of those who made it in the first place. Walt Disney became my hero (although I had been in love with his films from what seemed like birth). I learned that Walt Disney was a creative mastermind who could inspire his people in the abilities they had inside them, and to collectively create innovative technologies to not tell, but bring the experience to life. Walt was able to convince his workers to perfect that which was barely possible at the time, and would go on to inspire and entertain generations of fun-loving guests. I have always been inspired by his pioneering work, as well as the contributions by his many talented employees, and those today who carry on this innovative ways of striving to create things that are barely possible.
In everything I do, there lies a common theme, a desire to express ideas through an entertaining story. I have done graphic, furniture, toy, jewelry, and character design, and enjoy it all. Themed experience creation is my passion, but I ultimately am interested in telling stories. have begun to learn 3d modeling, and believe AR and VR is the future of experiences, but never want to eliminate practical effects. A good animatronic will always make an impact.
My experience derives from my personal artwork that has been exhibited in New York, LA, Orlando and overseas in Taiwan and other parts of Asia, as well as in my full-time job as Engraving Department Supervisor at a major sign production facility in Orlando with clients including Disney and Universal. I do freelance design work, a large bit of it being creating signage and logos for clients, along with my own themed mobile food vending project.
It is my mission to never stop dreaming and striving to make the things that exist in our imaginations a tangible experience.
